Hi. I've been working on the HDR photographs of the building work on my local church. The results can be seen on my website - just choose the 'Barber Rooms Project' menu option. It's the last 4 photographs so far (16 - 19) that have been produced using the HDR process (see my previous blog for details of the process). The results are good. Only one problem I've discovered - if someone moves during the 3 photo cycle, they end up as a blur or as ghosting on the finished image. But I think that the overall finished article is a good one, with detail across the entire photograph, from shadows to sunlight. I just need to avoid including people that might possible move, in my photographs! That's a bit difficult when you are photographing 'work in action' type subjects. You have to pick your moment when they stop for either a rest or a chat and then fire off your 3 photos in quick succession. To ensure that I don’t bring any unwanted movement into my photos, I need to ensure that a have a high enough speed to compensate and that my f/ stop is set small enough that I get everything in focus (not always possible), so it’s a bit of a juggling act. One good rule of thumb is to ensure that your speed is greater than your zoom setting. E.g Using a speed of 1/80 should help reduce your movement problems, when using a camera set at 50mm. My kit lenses are L standard Canon (professional range) and all come with IS (Image Stabilizer) built in, which also helps a lot.
